Belmont is a quiet community in the Central Elgin municipality of Elgin County, located just 23 km from London and 35 km of fellow Central Elgin village Port Stanley. Belmont is the second most populated community in the municipality, as it’s home to over 1,140 people. Its small population enjoys a peaceful and outdoorsy lifestyle, tucked away from the fast-paced cities nearby.
Belmont was surveyed in 1823 and settled several years later, though it didn’t see a major boost in population until the 1980s. For this reason, the vast majority of homes in the village were built in the last few decades. This includes the Robin Ride Estates, a new development with attractive modern homes built no later than 2017.
Well-Connected and Convenient
This picturesque village is a fantastic choice for families looking to escape city life without giving up their jobs or all the amenities cities offer. Belmont is conveniently situated for those working in London or St. Thomas. Using the 401, you can reach London’s downtown in 25 minutes and St. Thomas in 20 minutes. Having quick access to the 401, just 7.5 km from Belmont, allows for a fast and stress-free daily commute.
Of course, Belmont doesn’t just offer easy access to cities. The community is also just 35 km north of the beautiful Lake Erie. Belmont residents regularly make the 30-minute drive to Port Stanley Beach on the weekends to enjoy sunbathing, swimming, volleyball, and more. It’s a fun afternoon outing for people of all ages, including older couples and families with young children.
Enjoy the Local Attractions
That all said, you don’t have to drive to the cities or Lake Erie to have a good time. Belmont has plenty of great local attractions. For such a small village, Belmont offers a surprising variety of amazing restaurants. This includes the Belmont Diner, which serves mouthwatering breakfasts, the Belmont Town Restaurant, known for its all-you-can-eat weekend buffet, Country Pizza, and The Barking Cat bar.
There are also several outdoor activities you can enjoy on your own, with friends, or with the entire family. A popular attraction is the scenic 18-hole course at the Belmont Golf Club, which has grown considerably since it was founded in a bean field in 1961. You’ll also have close access to the Belmont Lake Brewery, the Canadian Canoe Museum, and so much more.
