Discover Ingersoll’s Many Cultural Venues

Ingersoll’s plethora of cultural venues and activities are hard to find in other towns of this size. This community has multiple museums, theatres, and art galleries. These are great places to visit during the afternoon when you’re not participating in one of Ingersoll’s many recreational activities.

You’ll always learn something new when visiting one of Ingersoll’s many cultural venues. This includes the Fusion Youth Centre, the Ingersoll Seniors Activity Centre, the Ingersoll Cheese Factory Museum and Sports Hall of Fame, the Ingersoll Public Library, and the Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts, and much more. These are fantastic places to know more about the local history, which is more compelling than you might think.

A Town with a Uniquely Cheesy History

Ingersoll gets its name from its founder, Thomas Ingersoll, who was given the land by the Governor in 1793. Ingersoll officially became a town in the 1860s and would soon gain notoriety for its local farms, factories, and cheddar cheese production. This, of course, is what gave Ingersoll its reputation as the Cheese Capital of Canada.

To celebrate this distinguished title, the Ingersoll-based James Harris Cheese Factory made the Mammoth Cheese. The Mammoth Cheese was essentially a 7,300-pound statue made of cheese, which you can view a replica of in the Ingersoll Cheese & Agriculture Museum! Once you see it, you’ll understand why this museum draws tourists from across the province and beyond.

Enjoy the Benefits of Small Town and City Living

You’ll even have close access to an international airport in London, just a 30-minute drive away.

The two closest cities to Ingersoll are Woodstock, 15 km away, and London, 40 km away. However, you won’t have to drive much further out to reach some of Ontario’s other major cities. This includes a 135-km drive to Mississauga, 70 km to Kitchener, and 90 km to Hamilton. If you prefer not to drive these routes yourself, you can easily take the VIA Rail from the Ingersoll Train Station.
