Komoka Ontario

Middlesex Centre is a township in Middlesex County, north of Lake Erie and southeast of Lake Huron. The township encompasses several rural towns and villages, including Elginfield, Burr, Ilderton, Delaware, and many more. One of these communities is the village of Komoka, with a population of about 1,200 people.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Komoka was considered a railway hot spot. The larger city of London, Ontario ended up absorbing most of the railway industry in the 19th century, thus allowing Komoka to retain its natural beauty. This natural beauty is one of the many reasons why more and more people have been settling down in this lovely village.

Explore the Great Outdoors

If you love spending time outdoors, you’ll feel right at home in Komoka. This rural village is actually the namesake of the nearby Komoka Provincial Park, an area of protected forest alongside the Thames River. Komoka Provincial Park is a scenic place to hike and go cycling, with lots of different trails for people of all ages.

An outdoorsy and adventurous spirit is central to Komoka’s identity. This is partly why the village supports and encourages various youth sports teams. You and your family will love spending time at the tranquil Komoka Park, as it has two baseball fields, two soccer fields, tennis courts, and a children’s play area.

Work, Shop, and Dine in Downtown Komoka

Of course, there’s a lot more to Komoka than trees, lakes, and hiking trails. Komoka also has two small business areas, a post office, a bank, gas stations, variety stores, hair salons, and much more. There are also plenty of delicious restaurants, many of which are in downtown Komoka’s Foodtown.

Komoka’s downtown has been expanding and evolving to keep up with its growing population which has come about with the development of several new subdivisions and apartment complexes. This creates new opportunities for even more fantastic events, such as Canada Day celebrations. Komoka rotates the responsibilities of hosting Canada Day events with two neighbouring communities, Delaware and Mount Brydges. These celebrations bring everyone together, with parades, free breakfasts, competitions, a baseball game, and fireworks to end the night!

A Fun and Lively Village to Call Home

There’s always something to do in Komoka, especially given the village’s recent expansions. Komoka has everything a family needs in a small town, including a YMCA fitness centre, two ice rinks, a library, a golf course, a seniors’ apartment complex, and a satellite ambulance station. There’s also a great elementary school, Parkview Public School.

If you’re interested in more cultural venues and activities, Komoka won’t disappoint. There’s no better place to learn about the town’s local railway history than at the Komoka Railway Museum. The museum has unique artefacts that attract visitors from across the province, including a 1913 Shay steam engine and a 1972 Grand Trunk Western caboose.
