Thamesford stands apart from the many small towns in Southern Ontario, primarily for its great location, vibrancy, and unique charm. This small town, which is home to just over 2,100 people, is one of many settlements in the Zorra Township of Oxford County. It occupies approximately 2.76 square kilometres, which offers plenty of homes for new residents!

Thamesford was settled in the mid-19th century and was given its name for the beautiful Thames River it sits on, which was originally named Akunesippi “Antlered River.” The river, appreciated by locals and Canadians nationwide, was named a Canadian Heritage River in 2000. In the many years since its founding, Thamesford has become a lively town with a growing population.

A Great Variety of Homes

One of the many reasons for Thamesford’s growing population is the fantastic variety of homes for sale. The homes for sale in Thamesford essentially fall into two groups. This includes the Thamesford Calithumpian, a community-wide event that takes place over the Victoria Day long weekend. Residents get together to enjoy contests, great food, entertainment, a parade, and more, all to celebrate their amazing community. There’s also the Highland Games Weekend in Embro, just 15 minutes away.

Everything You Need in One Town

Though Thamesford’s proximity to cities is an advantage, you don’t have to go that far to run errands or go shopping. This small town has a post office, pharmacy, restaurants (including a Tim Hortons), a public library, and six public parks. With all these parks located throughout Thamesford, you and your children will always have easy access to lovely picnic spots, open fields, and play structures.

Thamesford offers a short drive to several great public schools, including Thamesford’s own Thamesford Public School for junior kindergarten to Grade 8. Also within driving distance are Woodstock’s Roch Carrier French Immersion Public School, Woodstock Collegiate Institute, and College Avenue Secondary School, as well as Ingersoll’s Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute. There’s also a Catholic school in Ingersoll, St. Jude’s Catholic Elementary School, and another in Woodstock, St. Mary’s High School.
