Woodstock Ontario

Woodstock is a city in Southwestern Ontario, located 128 km from Toronto and 43 km from London. The city is the seat of Oxford County, right at the head of the beautiful Thames River.

Though famously known as the Dairy Capital of Canada, Woodstock also promotes itself as “The Friendly City.” It’s this friendliness and positive atmosphere that gives Woodstock the feeling of a small town but with all the fun of living in a city! With a growing population of over 40,000 welcoming citizens, Woodstock is a fantastic place to put down roots and find a fresh start.

A Small, Historic, and Evergrowing City

Woodstock was first settled in 1800 by European colonists and United Empire Loyalists, namely Zacharias Burtch and Levi Luddington. It was incorporated as a town in 1851 and has continually grown into one of Southwestern Ontario’s largest cities. Despite its growth, Woodstock still has all of its original administration buildings, which is a unique characteristic, especially in Ontario.

Woodstock has a healthy economy and plenty of economic prospects for newcomers. The city has largely narrowed its focus towards manufacturing and tourism, though Woodstock also serves as a market city for the agricultural industry in the surrounding areas. There are lots of opportunities in Woodstock to start a business, grow your current business, or begin an entirely new career path.

A Hub of Cultural and Artistic Exhibits

There’s always so much going on and so much to do in Woodstock. The city regularly hosts various cultural and artistic exhibits, the most notable being the Woodstock Museum. The museum is a great place to spend an afternoon, along with the Woodstock Art Gallery, Theatre, and Peace Lighthouse. Simply put, there’s always a fun and educational experience to be had in this historic city.

Woodstock is also home to some of the province’s best festivals! This includes Cowapolooza, The Woodstock Fair, The Woodstock Wood Show, the Woodstock Rotary Festival of Music, and so much more. These events, which largely take place during the summer, have established the city as a favourite tourism spot for people across Ontario and beyond. It’s never a dull moment in Woodstock!

Explore Woodstock’s Lively Downtown

Woodstock’s downtown area attracts people from towns over, and for good reason! Stretching from Vansittart Avenue to Huron Street on Dundas Street, the city’s main street, Woodstock’s downtown area is packed with things to do. There are banks and administration buildings, along with a diverse array of wonderful restaurants and independent retailers. This is notably one of the areas in Woodstock where you can spot some of the city’s historic century-old buildings.

What really makes this downtown area stand out is the makeover it received in the 1990s. This is when the city added cobbled sidewalks and multiple gardens, giving the area a much more scenic and picturesque quality. You’ll love walking the cobbled sidewalks and exploring the downtown, especially during Woodstock’s “Summer Streetfest” celebration. All to say, whether you’re here to shop, dine, work, or play, you’ll find lots to do downtown.
